South Hall Literary Magazine cultivates a community for alumni and their creative work.
We welcome graduates of any college with any degree to submit your literature and art. We recognize the intimidation of applying to big publications, and we strive to provide a safe space to share and connect.
Submitting to big presses and big names can be intimidating, and we recognize that many creatives might be a bit lost as to what to do with their creative talents, much less how to find the money to pursue a potential career.
So whether you graduated in 1982 or 2022, if you seek a place to publish your work and gain recognition, consider joining us. Share the hardships you face, now that you no longer have the structure and stability of school to lean on. Talk about your struggles with housing. Regale us with tales of the shitty job market. Bemoan that which ties you down every day because the people in charge failed to prepare you for the real world.
Perhaps by sharing your story, you will find the strength to make your way.
The name of the magazine is a nod to the name of UC Santa Barbara’s English building, and the concept was first conceptualized in the fall of 2023 by two now-graduates: Kiana Perez-Granados and Suad Abdoun. They rallied their fellow editors from their time in The Catalyst Contemporary Literary Arts Magazine, in the hopes that, together, they could create something remarkable.
